The "Absent Protagonist" par excellence: the mirror

An "Absent Protagonist", but of fundamental help in modulating space, is the mirror; an element capable of lengthening the heights, opening the walls, creating perspectives and giving light in an extraordinary and unexpected way.

It is a totally absent element, which distorts the ways of reading the spaces, with functions that are not limited only to the lighting and the spatial perception of the environment, but connotes incisiveness in any place, thus revolutionizing our lifestyle.

Think of two small rooms to be renovated: the walls can be canceled and opened in an extraordinary way. But think also of a large space with little light: the mirror becomes a veritable waterfall sparkling with lively and vibrant light!

A clever play of mirrors has allowed me to revisit and revolutionize the common areas of Relais Le Chevalier in Riga, a building of which I oversaw the renovation, giving new splendor to a historic building of the mid-1700s, once used as a civilian home.

Thus an environment was born that conveys a sense of breath, despite the original spaces being very small: this is why the use of mirrors has been fundamental, to amplify the light and give amplitude to the environment, alongside the selection of well-kept furnishings but more light as possible, and the realization of glass and metal parts.
