In this article I will talk about one of the elements I think are essential in living space: the bookcase, a complement that over the years has undergone a major transformation.
When we talk about bookcases, we say we think of a mobile device with a square and symmetrical shape, set against a wall, that of the living room. Let's try instead to hypothesize that it is more particular than a piece of furniture: a particular piece of furniture, with original, dynamic lines, which stands out from the other elements of the house.
I show you some examples.
This is DNA bookcase by Cattelan Italia, developed on 13 self-supporting shelves, with a total height of 181 cm. A bookcase that, as the name suggests, recalls the spiral shape of DNA. It can be easily positioned in the center of the room or in a reading corner.
Joy by Zanotta, designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1989. A self-supporting piece of furniture with rotating shelves thanks to the central element that acts as a pivot. A "showcase furniture" for storing books, vases and objects, available with 5 or 7 shelves, depending on the height required. It can be placed at the entrance of the house or on the side of an armchair.
Empire by Philipp Selva: element with a development of 125 cm in width and 185 cm in height. The structure is composed of vertical rods in painted metal and fixed shelves in canaletto walnut, completely self-supporting. Can be interpreted as separating element from two environments (for example kitchen and living room) or as a furnishing protagonist of a wall.
